Climbing Gunung Sindoro a rather big Volcano in Indonesia offering stunning aerial views of the surrounding mountain landscape from the Peak

Gunung Sumbing (3371m) as seen from Gunung Sindoro summit

Gunung Sindoro (3153m) is a stratovolcano in central Java, Indonesia. It is also known as Mount (Gunung) Sundoro, Mount Sendoro and Mount Sindara. It’s conical peaked neighbour Gunung Sumbing is separated by the Kledung Pass at 1,404m altitude and from the village of Kledung you can find the Pos or Checkpost at what is known as the basecamp which is one of the two start points for the trek to the summit. The other start point for Climbing Gunung Sindoro is found at the base of the northern flank at a village called Sigedang which is more convenient if you are around the Dieng Plateau region.

From Kledung village at the Checkpost you must pay about 3000 IDR for Climbing Gunung Sindoro, this entrance fee was in 2012, you also sign a register book so it is known you are on the mountain just in case anything goes wrong and you happen to disappear! The path or hiking trail is not at all difficult to follow hence there is no need for a guide. From Kledung to the summit takes between 5 and 6 hours depending on how many breaks you take along the way and how fast you ascend.

Mount Ciremai

Mount Ciremai/Cereme (or Ciremay) is a dominating symmetrical stratovolcano in West Java, Indonesia. It is located to the southwest of the major town of Cirebon. Mt Ciremai is strikingly visible towards the south from the main west-east corridor (Jakarta-Surabaya) rail link along the north coast of Java. It is the highest point of West Java.

At the summit of Mt Ciremai there is a 4.5 × 5 km wide caldera. Eruptions are relatively infrequent in historical time but explosive activity and lahars from the summit have been recorded. Mount Ceremai is especially significant because it is the highest mountain in the province of West Java. The name Cereme or Ciremai is derived from Sundanese word for Otaheite gooseberry.

There are numerous recreational and tourist sites on the slopes of Mt Ciremai. Various sites, including parks and cafes, attract crowds of visitors from Cirebon. The museum at Linggajati on the slopes of Mt Ceremai which records the important historical event of the Linggadjati Agreement during the struggle for Indonesian Independence in 1946 attracts many visitors during weekends. The Mt Ciremai National Park extends for a considerable distance around the slopes of the mountain.

Arjuno Mountain

Arjuno-Welirang is a stratovolcano in the province of East Java on Java, Indonesia. Mount Arjuno-Welirang lies about 50 kilometers (31 mi) south of Surabaya, and 20 kilometers (12 mi) north of Malang.

It is a twin volcano, with the 'twins' being Arjuno and Welirang. There is at least one other stratovolcano in the area, and there are around 10 pyroclastic cones nearby.

They are located in a 6 km line between Arjuno and Welirang. The Arjuno-Welirang volcanic complex itself lies in the older two volcanoes, Mount Ringgit to the east and Mount Linting to the south.

The summit lacks vegetation. Fumarolic areas with sulfur deposits are found in several locations on Welirang.

The name Arjuno is Javanese rendition of Arjuna, a hero in Mahabharata epic, while Welirang is Javanese word for sulfur.

A 1950 eruption had a VEI=2. There was an explosive eruption. Another eruption occurred two years later in 1952. This eruption had a VEI=0.

A 300 hectares at slope of Mount Arjuno near the road of Surabaya-Malang is used by Taman Safari II.

Mount Argopuro

The Argopuro mountain complex offers one of the longest and most isolated treks in Java with incredible scenery to match. Above the agricultural land (corn, cassava, tobacco, coffee, cocoa), at about 1,200m, the track enters tall, often moss/lichen/epiphyte-covered, lower-montane forest.

At higher altitudes (above about 1,800m), casuarina (Casuarina junghuhniana) dominates the upper-montane slopes; this specie is especially resistant to fires that are quite common. Extensive “button-grass” meadows occur in depressions.

Edelweiss (Anaphalis javanica) occurs in the sub-alpine zone around 2,600m and above. Many local hikers spend 4-6 days making the traverse and the 3-day trip is about a short as you can realistically make it.

The ruins of an ancient Hindu temple on Rengganis peak, named after Princess Rengganis who supposedly built the temple possibly as early as the 12th century, make for a mystical experience. The highest peak is Argopuro (3,088m) adjacent to Rengganis (3,066m). The track passes by the beautiful, secluded Danau Taman Hidup (Living Garden Lake) (2,000m).

The Rengganis/Argopuro peaks can be approached from either the towns of Baderan to the north-east or Bremi to the west. The Baderan ascent is more gradual although longer. This description starts at Baderan and finishes at Bremi.

Mursala Island

Mursala waterfall has a height of about 35 m from the hills that form steep cliffs. Because the location of the waterfall is located in the Mursala directly opposite the Indian Ocean then this waterfall flows directly into the sea . Waterfall as there are only a few in the world and in Indonesia we have 2 waterfalls like that , another one named Niagara Kahatola located in West Halmahera , North Maluku .

The flow of Niagara Mursala is derived from the flow shortest river in the world with a width of about 400 m , length 700 m and flows through granite rocks that are in the cliffs of the island and slid gushing down with a roar into the area of the sea , creating stunning views . Cliff – a cliff consists of granite rocks maroon.

Discharge water here is never dry even when the dry season. In fact, the flow of water here as very heavy so as to produce the sound of water is so strong. This waterfall empties into the Indian Ocean. While you’re here, you are walking in front of the Indian Ocean so blue sea panorama will spoil you.

Another uniqueness owned Mursala waterfall is a waterfall that is derived from the world’s shortest river flow . Besides the natural beauty of Indonesia appealed to the Hollywood movie makers to use it as a location for filming , one of the fil m King Kong (2005 ) . This film takes place in Mursala , Central Tapanuli , North Sumatra province , who described the island as a horrible place full of ancient animals .
